I've uploaded my photos. Now how do I add a photo to a page?
Pages in the book are separate from the photos until you "add" a photo to a specific page. To do this, you first upload the photos that you have, by clicking "Upload photos" or selecting Create->New Photo from the menubar. When you upload your photos, they go into the "Photos" area of your WebBook (which you can think of as the book's virtual "shoebox"). They are not yet part of any page. To assign a photo to a page, first go to the page that you want the photo to be on. Then click Edit->Page from the menubar to edit the page. If this page has any pre-defined areas for photos, there will be a link that says "Choose an existing photo". Clicking on this link will bring up a smaller window that shows all of the photos in the "shoebox". You then click on the photo you want added to this page. If there are no more pre-defined photo areas for the page or if you have already added all of those photos and you wish to add more photos to the page, click Edit->Add Photo from the menubar. Once again, there will be a link that says "Choose an existing photo".

What is the minimum suggested dpi or resolution that pictures should be for print quality?
For pictures taken with a digital camera, we recommend that that photos be between 2-3 megapixels in resolution (i.e. 1600x1200 pixels, through 2000x1500 pixels). Smaller resolutions will still be acceptable, especially if you place more than one photo on a page (will will make the images smaller).

If you are scanning pictures, we recommend 300 dpi resolution for pictures that are 3" x 5" or larger. If the pictures are smaller than that, you should increase the scan resolution to 400 dpi.

You must save your scanned images in JPEG format.

Why are my photos blurry?
The JPEG file format is a lossy compression scheme. Lossy compression actually throws away some of the original pixels of the image in order to compress the size of the image.

You might not be aware that each time you save a JPEG file, it gets re-compressed. This means that every time you save your JPEG image, the resolution gets blurrier and blurrier.

So, when editing your images, you should make sure to use a lossless compression format, such as TIFF or a raw format (like Photoshop's PSD format). That way, each time you save your image while editing it, you won't lose anything.

Once you are finally done editing your image, THEN save your image as a JPEG image before uploading it to SharedInk.

Using this technique, you are sure to get the highest quality images at the most efficient file size.

If I upload a big picture, say 18" x 12", will it be resized to fit the page? If so, to what size?
If you upload a picture larger than 10" wide or 8" tall, our software will scale it to fit our pages. When scaling your picture, we will respect the original aspect ratio so as to not warp the image.
