What is a MiniBook and how is it different from the Keepsake book?
MiniBooks are halfsize versions of our fullsize Keepsake books, where you may have up to 2 photos per
page. We like to think of MiniBooks as a convenient, elegant way of "developing" your digital photos. But
rather than getting your photos back in a clumsy paper sleeve, your photos are bound into a hardcover
book, ready for viewing and sharing!

How many pages can my hardcover book have?
The maximum number of pages in your hardcover book is 160 pages (80 sheets printed double-sided).

What type of binding is used for the hardcover books?
Our books are bound using standard hardcase book binding techniques, with some proprietary optimizations
we created specifically for the on-demand market. The book blocks are bound using a wire stitch technique,
which producing a very tight, high-quality binding. The books blocks are cased in to the cover using
full end-sheets and adhered with glue. The finished product is quite amazing!

What type of printing process is used for the hardcover books?
All of our hardcover books are printed using a true-ink 4-color digital offset press with excellent color
reproduction capabilities. The printing is of very high quality, comparable to a "coffee-table" style book you
might purchase at the book store. Color reproduction is a 4-color halftone screening process, where four
colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) are overlayed on each other to get approximately 16.7 million different
apparent colors. Our hardcover books are printed at 800 x 800 dpi resolution with with an effective line screen of
150-180 lines per inch.

Are the hardcover books printed single or double-sided?
By default, your hardcover book, whether it be a full-size Keepsake Book or the smaller-sized MiniBook, will
be printed double-sided. Please note however, that if your book has 15 or fewer pages (remember the standard book
includes up to 20 pages), we will print the pages of your book single-sided. This is required in order to
maintain a minimum required thickness of the finished book.

How many sheets of paper are in the standard 20-page book?
Since we print double-sided, 1 sheet of paper will have 2 pages. The standard 20-page book contains 10
sheets of paper, printed front and back.

What type of paper is used for the hardcover books?
We use two different types of paper. For our full size Keepsake Books, a 100 lb premium text matte-finish
paper is used. For our smaller MiniBooks, a 100 lb premium text gloss-finish paper is used. Both types of paper
are archival quality with no shelf life concerns.

In what sequence will the pages of my hardcover book be printed?
Your final printed book will have the following page sequence:
(1) The first sheet of all of our books is blank. This is needed in order to adhere the book block (the pages of the book) to the hardcover case. Since 3/8“ of the first page needs to be glued to the end sheet, we insert this blank sheet at the beginning so the first real page of your book does not get obscured.
(2) Next comes the first actual page of your book, which will be on the right side of the book (or the top side of the paper).
(3) The rest of your pages then follow. Page 2 will be on the back side of Page 1, Page 4 will be on the back side of Page 3, and so on.
(4) An extra page is inserted as the last page of the book that includes the SharedInk corporate information
(publishing notice, 1.46" x 1.06" logo, and contact information).
So, when you open your book, the first page will be blank. When you then turn the page, the left side will be blank
and the first page of your book will start on the right side of your book. When you turn the page again, Page 2 will
appear on the left side (the back side of the first page), and the following page will be on the right side.

What is the cover label?
The cover label is an adhesive label, printed using the same 4-color true ink digital offset press that
we use for the pages of the books.
The covers of our books feature a recessed area in the cover where the cover label picture is affixed on
top of the linen material. This means that the cover label lies flush with the rest of the book and
is not raised. This recessed area adds quite a nice finishing touch, that is unique to SharedInk.

Do I have to use SharedInk's binding service to make hardcover books from my web pages?
Not at all. If you wish, you may order a digital PDF version of your online WebBook that you can print
yourself. You may then take your book pages to a copy center for binding.
