What is a Cookie?
A cookie is a very small text file placed on your hard drive by a Web Page server. A cookie
provides a means of identifying you to the Web Page server. This allows the
Web Page server to customize the Web Pages served to you and perform security
operations such as authorization and authentication. A cookie belongs to you
only and may only be read by the Web Page server that gave it to you.

What Types of Cookies Are There?
There are two types of cookies: persistent and non-persistant (or session) cookies.
Persistent cookies store text in a file on an individual's hard drive. Persistent
cookies are used primarily to enable personalization of the individual's
experience at the site by recording the individual's preferences. For example,
some sites use cookies to allow users to customize the appearance of the site.
They may also be used by site developers to help determine which content is most
popular and which is less useful.
Session cookies do not record data in a cookie text file. The information is stored
temporarily in memory and is available only during the course of a session; it is
eliminated once the session is terminated (e.g., when you logout of the SharedInk
site or close your browser).

What Types of Cookies Does SharedInk Use?
Currently, SharedInk uses only session cookies. Session cookies are used to provide
a secure way of verifying your identity during your session. By using session cookies,
we can ensure that only the proper users are allowed to participate in the WebBooks to
which they belong.
